It's Veterans' Day

War may occasionally be necessary, and those who answered the country's call are being honored today. The War in Iraq wasn't necessary and it isn't making us any safer. Our troops deserve better treatment than they've been given by this Administration.

If you voted for Bush, you voted for this war. I assume that you're now over in Iraq, fighting to support your Commander-in-Chief. If not, why not? I know some of you Democrats voted for this war, too. Do you need help finding the enlistment office?

The gold star graphic below was based on an old war propaganda poster. The gold star is displayed by families who have lost someone in war. More stars are added when there has been more than one military loss in the family. The original caption on the poster was "Because Somebody Talked."

In case you haven't been paying attention and aren't sure who lied, it was George W. Bush who lied, along with many members of his Administration.

One mother was brave enough to call a lie a lie. She started out feeling alone, but she knows she's not alone any longer. As one of my favorite leaders said:

Patriotism isn't always about wrapping yourself in the flag and paying lip service to the party in control of the White House and Congress.

Working for peace can be patriotic, too.
