Bush Ratings At All-Time Low

"The latest CBS News poll finds President Bush's approval rating has fallen to an all-time low of 34 percent, while pessimism about the Iraq war has risen to a new high."

"Just 18 percent said they had a favorable view of the vice president, down from 23 percent in January."

Ohio Senator Proposes Ban on GOP Adoption

Sticker available here.
From Ohio, a pretty good idea, even if *he* is only joking about it. I've long been an advocate of banning Republican marriage. This seems like a logical next step to protect our next generation.

Excerpts from the article:

State Sen. Robert Hagan sent out e-mails to fellow lawmakers late Wednesday night, stating that he intends to "introduce legislation in the near future that would ban households with one or more Republican voters from adopting children or acting as foster parents." The e-mail ended with a request for co-sponsorship.

Hagan said his legislation was written in response to a bill introduced in the Ohio House this month by state Rep. Ron Hood, R-Ashville, that is aimed at prohibiting gay adoption.

"We need to see what we are doing," said Hagan, who called Hood's proposed bill blatantly discriminatory and extremely divisive. Hagan called Hood and the eight other conservative House Republicans who backed the anti-gay adoption bill "homophobic."

Hood's bill, which does not have support of House leadership, seeks to ban children from being placed for adoption or foster care in homes where the prospective parent or a roommate is homosexual, bisexual or transgender.

To further lampoon Hood's bill, Hagan wrote in his mock proposal that "credible research" shows that adopted children raised in Republican households are more at risk for developing "emotional problems, social stigmas, inflated egos, and alarming lack of tolerance for others they deem different than themselves and an air of overconfidence to mask their insecurities."

The Slippery Slope

Abortion Ban Passes South Dakota Senate

Before laws require that every doctor's examining room contains a mandatory politician to dictate treatment, I propose this simple solution.

Liberty or Security

I've already done a design with this Benjamin Franklin saying, but I like the saying so much, I decided to try another.

"They who would give up
an essential liberty
for temporary security,
deserve neither
liberty or security."

Bad Flag Day!

Okay, I'll stop picking on Dick Cheney for a minute. How about if I switch my "sights" to Condoleezza? (Okay, I guess that was sort of a Dick joke, too.)

Look closely and you'll see that her "normal" coiffure has blended in with the symbol of the Soviet Union cut out of the middle of a Hungarian flag, but at a glance, it's quite an unusual hairdo!

Orange Vests In DC?

Remember when Karl Rove and Karen Hughes wore camouflage outfits for Halloween in order to make fun of John Kerry's goosehunting photo op?

With evidence that Cheney's aim isn't so good, maybe Beltway Democrats should show up for work in orange vests...

Fred Hates Everybody

I keep seeing headlines about "Cartoon Protesters" and I find myself picturing Garfield, Marmaduke, and Ziggy running around the Middle East with picket signs. (Update: I see Jon Stewart of the Daily Show had a similar idea when he showed the kid from the Family Circus cartoon.)

Anyway, I've been thinking about a different kind of protester this week...

Fred Phelps of the Westboro Baptist "Church," located in his home's basement in Topeka, Kansas, is the father of godhatesfags.com. His tiresome little group is the one you'll see outside various events, holding signs in rainbow colors that say "God Hates Fags." His website celebrates the death of Matthew Shepard. He had plans to bring his hateful protesters to picket Coretta Scott King's funeral because of her tireless work against discrimination toward gay men and lesbians. In 2005, when the usual venues for his protests weren't bringing enough publicity any more, his protesters began picketing military funerals with signs that say that "God hates America." His group claims that God is allowing members of America's military to die as punishment for America's acceptance of homosexuality. The pictures of protesters at his rancid little website made me decide to create a picture of my own.

I've been assured by my dear friend "listener" that God doesn't hate. As a mere mortal though, I still get a kick out of this possibility:

Reality Bites!

There's a lot a seat squirming when Dubya leaves the protective bubble of a pre-screened adoring audience. This one would make a good Preparation H commercial.

"Well, George, we really stepped in it today!"

From Rev. Dr. Joseph Lowery:

"We know now there were no weapons of mass destruction over there. [Standing Ovation] But Coretta knew and we know that there are weapons of misdirection right down here. Millions without health insurance. Poverty abounds. For war billions more but no more for the poor."
